Crews from the Mahopac Falls Fire Department were dispatched to a residence near the area of Barrett Hill Road and Varna Lane in Carmel shortly before 1:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15 when neighbors reported smoke coming from the home.

Mahopac Falls Fire Department Public Information Officer Jack Casey said that NYSEG responded to the scene, cut the power to the home, and fire crews were forced to “hand lay” nearly 250 feet of firehose to the scene due to a narrow driveway.

Officers from the Carmel Police Department closed the roadway and firefighters swiftly were able to knock down the flames. One firefighter suffered a minor injury during the incident, no other injuries were reported.
